accessibility

Everyone should be able to use this site.

We are a small Utah company, and we build this site ourselves. We want it to work for you whether you browse with a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control, a magnifier, or a phone held close to your face. Below is what we aim for, what we have done, what we know is still imperfect, and how to reach a person if something gets in your way.

the standard we aim for

WCAG 2.1, level AA.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are the international standard for accessible websites, and level AA is the level that courts and regulators in the United States generally treat as the benchmark. We measure ourselves against it. We are not claiming a perfect score, because an honest claim on a site this size is that we test, we find things, and we fix them. What follows is that record rather than a badge.

where we stand

What is already in place.

  • Every page can be operated by keyboard alone, including the reserve and design flows.
  • A skip-to-content link on every page so keyboard users can pass the navigation.
  • Text and background colors are checked against the 4.5:1 contrast standard (3:1 for large headings).
  • All photographs carry written descriptions for screen readers, and decorative images are hidden from them.
  • Every form field has a visible, permanent label, not a placeholder that disappears as you type.
  • Errors and confirmations are announced to screen readers, not just shown in color.
  • Animation and the homepage slideshow respect your system's reduce-motion setting.
  • Page structure uses real headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate by section.
known limitations

What we know is not there yet.

Listing these is more useful to you than pretending they do not exist, and it tells you exactly when to skip the website and just email us instead.

The porch design preview

The design tool on our design page shows a visual preview of your arrangement. The choices themselves are fully labeled and keyboard operable, and the price and every option are given as text, but the preview image itself cannot convey the arrangement to a screen reader. If you want the design described to you, email us and we will walk you through it.

The homepage slideshow

Photographs on the homepage advance on their own. They pause when you hover them and hold still entirely if your system is set to reduce motion, but there is no visible pause button yet. That is on our list.

Checkout

Payment is handled by Stripe on their own pages, so that step follows Stripe's accessibility support rather than ours. If you hit a wall there, we can take your order directly instead.

another way in

You never have to use the website to buy from us.

If any part of this site is hard for you to use, email us and we will do the whole thing with you directly: talk through the options, describe the designs, answer questions about your porch, take the details, and send you a payment link or arrange another way to pay. You will get the same pricing and the same install. No explanation of why is needed.

tell us about a problem

If something blocks you, we want to know.

Write to hello@mountainpumpkins.com and tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you can tell us what you browse with, that helps us reproduce it, but it is not required.

We answer accessibility reports within 5 business days. If the fix is quick we make it right away. If it is bigger, we tell you what we found, what we plan to do, and roughly when, and in the meantime we make sure you can get what you needed another way.
